About

I am the author of novels including Foxy-T (Faber and Faber) and Charlieunclenorfolktango (Codex), the non-fiction work Another Fool in the Balkans (Cadogan), and numerous short stories. My latest novel Shackleton’s Man Goes South is published by the Science Museum in April 2013. I have edited and co-edited the short story collections Britpulp (Sceptre) and — with Matt Thorne and Borivoj Radaković – Croatian Nights (Serpent’s Tail). I was writer in residence at the Science Museum, London in summer 2008, and Leverhulme Trust writer in residence at the UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies in 2008-9. Other recent titles are Missorts Volume II (Situations), a novella published alongside my new permanent soundwork for Bristol, and Dicky Star and the garden rule (Forma), a novella that was specially commissioned to accompany a series of works by the artists Jane and Louise Wilson, reflecting upon the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster.

I wrote Ivy4Evr, an interactive SMS drama pilot produced by Blast Theory for Channel 4 that was broadcast in October 2010. Ivy4Evr was nominated for a BIMA award by the British Interactive Media Association in 2011.

Download Missorts Volume II, free and DRM-free at www.missorts.comI use this blog to share news and information about books, stories, projects, collaborations and events as they happen, and to point to free stuff that might be available from time to time. There is more information about forthcoming readings and live events on my new ‘Events’ page — including an exclusive free MP3 of the studio version of my live collaboration with musician and UK acid house pioneer Richard Norris.

I also want to post, tag and collate bibliographical and archive materials and online resources as I find them, which may take a while, and to link to other related things. I’ll try and categorise posts clearly so it’s easy to search back through the pile, e.g. for everything relating to particular novels or projects, about my fiction generally, or to the projects I do with visual artists or using fiction in interdisciplinary contexts.

In case you were wondering about the title of this blog, Piece of Paper Press is a publishing project that I started in 1994 as a lo-tech, sustainable imprint that could be used to occasionally publish new writings and visual or graphic works by artists and writers and distribute them free. Since 1994 I’ve collaborated with and published works by artists and writers including Liliane Lijn, Pavel Büchler, Peter Bunting, Barbara Campbell, Tim Etchells, Bruce Gilchrist, Halford+Beard, Elizabeth Magill, Penny McCarthy, James Pyman, Borivoj Radaković, Gordana Stanišić, Suzanne Treister, Alison Turnbull and others.
